Forensic Image and Video Enhancement Operator (FIVE-O)
This course provides examiners with an introduction to forensic image and video enhancement. Students will learn:
- Forensic framework of image and video enhancement
- Basic image processing knowledge
- To recognize frequent problems in images and videos and their corresponding solutions.
Students achieve the FIVE-O certificate after passing an examination within a month after the completion of this course.
Course objectives
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the forensic framework of image and video enhancement
- Describe the building blocks of digital images and videos
- Recognize the problem which is most prominent in the footage
- Determine the solution for the problem present in the footage
Course material
During this course student will receive:
- A workbook
- Attached to this workbook is an USB with practise images and videos
- Handout of presentation slides with room for notes
- A temporary license and dongle for the Impress software (to be returned at the end of the course)
Requirements
Students should bring their own laptop for hands-on exercises meeting the following specs:
- Windows 8 or higher (x64)
- Intel i7 or better
- 16 GB Ram or more
- Minimum 50 GB of free storage space on system disk (preferably SSD)
- A graphics card with CUDA cores is highly recommendable

Impress Hands-on Training
This course provides examiners with an introduction to forensic image and video enhancement. Students will learn:
- The ins and outs of the user interface
- The concept of the Impress Pipeline
- The extend of the filters and parameters available
And of course the students will get enough hands on time. It is advised to have completed the Five-O training before participating in
this course.
Course objectives
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Find their way through the software
- Understand the concept behind the software
- Have a good idea of the available filters in the software
- Determine which filter to apply to which problem
